Ebay is launching a new vintage fashion project, and it has snapped up rock n’ roll royalty Alexandra and Theodora Richards to help.
The online marketplace has teamed up with the vintage retailer What Goes Around Comes Around on a series of music-inspired, luxury capsule collections adhering to the motto “Peace, Luxe and Rock and Roll.” Highlights include an Hermès Blue Croc Porosus Kelly 40 bag, a Chanel Studded Messenger Bag and Levi’s 501 jeans, with multiple pieces being listed from $9.99, with no reserve.
The initiative launches Thursday with a limited-edition June drop, set to be followed by further releases throughout the year. This month’s offerings include 1,300 high-end pieces, spanning women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories and vintage items from brands such as Hermès, Dior and Chanel. The Richards sisters — the daughters of the Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and supermodel Patti Hanson — lend a hand by modeling the items for the collection’s lookbook.
“Bringing together the best of both brands — amazing, rare luxury inventory and the power of the global marketplace — our collaboration with What Goes Around Comes Around delivers an incredible selection of luxury, fashion, accessories and collectibles from around the world,” said Renee Paradise, Head of Fashion at eBay, in a statement. Seth Weisser, Co-Founder and CEO at What Goes Around Comes Around, called the collaboration “a natural fit.”
The move is the latest example of the fashion industry’s ongoing love affair with vintage and pre-loved clothing. April saw the fashion brand & Other Stories launched a secondhand clothing initiative in partnership with the online platform Sellpy in Sweden, while the US label Guess Jeans announced the launch of ‘#GUESSVintage,’ a concept that saw more than 150 authenticated pieces sold exclusively at the LA retailer Fred Segal.
